Preselected AVID juniors and seniors are to arrive at Carmel, Clay and Creekside Middle Schools at 8 a.m. from Jan. 15 to 17 according to AVID senior leader Meredith Missler.
Missler said that the AVID members need to arrive with their own transportation at the middle schools and will have an hour-long lunch break to get lunch from wherever they choose. After they arrive, they will receive a list of questions to ask the applicants for the event, and are required to return to their fourth-period class once the interviews are over.
“It will be a really cool experience for us.” Missler said.
According to AVID site coordinator Shannon Woodson, AVID interviewers will work with at least one AVID faculty member and can expect to return to CHS at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. at Carmel, Clay and Creekside Middle Schools respectively. Each interview should last 15 minutes each and will allow AVID to determine how the program will be able to help the applicant.
“We encourage (the interviewers) to be positive about the program, but be very realistic about the requirements and the commitment that AVID takes.” Woodson said. “It’s a privilege to take part in the interview process so …any candidate comes into (the program) with their eyes open.”
