The CEF telethon and phonathon will occur simultaneously from March 12 to 14. The CEF telethon involves the airing of the performing arts showcase video the advanced telecommunication students filmed, which will also air all afternoon and evening on CHTV and live stream at carmeltv.net. In conjunction to the telethon, the phonathon will be taking place in which students call out to the community for donations. The advanced telecommunication students are preparing for these events by editing the video they filmed of the performing arts showcase, according to CHTV sponsor Erin Earnest.
Earnest said, “So basically, we film it, bring it back to the editing lab and cut it down into a reasonable timeline. We add in graphics, and we add in a donation ticker. Students literally sit at a bank of phones and call individuals in the community for the phonathon. The editing process will begin shortly, and we are hopefully going to have that ready to air on those evenings.
Jacob Tehrani, CEF telethon co-director and editor and senior, said he is editing the video of the performing arts showcase to make it acceptable to put on a DVD. Tehrani said that the change in location of the performing arts showcase from the Dale E. Graham auditorium to Clay Middle School makes the video editing process more difficult.
“Since we were at Clay, it was not an ideal setup camera wise, so we had to work around that,” Tehrani said. “This shows up when you’re in post-production editing in how non-ideal the location was. But there isn’t relatively that much to do because it’s just large clips of kids singing.”
Earnest said, “The CEF telethon is a great opportunity for students to work a full out production of their own. They control a whole aspect of the physical product. They control the cameras, work with the switchers and figure out the graphics and write the scripts. The fact that it’s a fundraising opportunity for the district is just huge.”
