Members of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will attend their district meeting on Dec. 3, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer. The meeting will take place at The Fun Place, an arcade in Greenwood. Members from the 8th FCCLA district of Indiana, including chapters from Carmel, Avon, Franklin, Greenwood and other schools are all invited to attend, according to vice president and senior Taylor Farmer.
The club members who attend the meeting are planning a district-wide charity event, according to Farmer. Each chapter must bring one idea and the club officers will pick one of these ideas. According to Aliya Malcom, club president and senior, the Carmel chapter is suggesting a food collection and passing out meals to needy people during the Thanksgiving season.
As for attendance from the Carmel chapter, “Anyone and everyone in the club who wants to go can go,” said Farmer. “That’s part of our club, encouraging people to go places.”
This past Saturday, club members attended the Fall Leadership Conference, which took place in Banker’s Life Fieldhouse. Several club officers from around the whole state, including Malcom, gave presentations about several different FCCLA topics.
“I gave one about ways to keep members and how to award those who stay,” said Malcom. “It was fun.”
