Through his work as president of Art Club, senior Alex Mikev spreads his passion for art around this school. His current project with the Art Club is a small mural for the Arts Garden, which club members built last year. In addition, members will create window paintings for Indiana Design Center shops. Expanding to the community, Mikev recently created a high school division of the Carmel Arts Council. Working with senior student leaders George Gemelas, Leo Biette, Shelby Hiter, Carlton Anker and Ian Bossung, this council’s purpose is to showcase and utilize student artwork in a way that will benefit the community. Its first event is a student art show at the Civic Center on Dec. 14 during the beginning, intermission and end of a play. Mikev has been widely recognized for his ability. He was awarded overall winner of the art supply company Sargent Arts’ statewide competition in March, has won regional awards in Scholastic Art and Writing Competitions, received the Young Artist Award and earned awards in the spring art show at CHS.
