According to Vikas Maturi, Brain Game member and sophomore, the team’s next match at WTHR-13 will be on Feb. 19 against Zionsville High School.
“I think we have a great chance of winning. I think we are more talented than Zionsville and better on the buzzer,” Maturi said.
The team’s previous WTHR-13 match was against Fishers High School. According to sponsor John Shearin, they won the match. He also said the team had a problem during the recording of the match.
“About 4.5 minutes into the competition, I thought something was awry. As the faculty sponsor sitting on the side, I’m not allowed to challenge a question. That has to come from the students. Although the program is pre-recorded, they do it in real time. They stop and take a two minute break every time there’s going to be a commercial. So sure enough during the first break, the captain of our team, Noah Lybik, said the score was wrong. We answered a question, and we didn’t get a point for it. The score was 5-5, and the Carmel kids answered a question, but the score didn’t advance,” Shearin said.
According to Shearin, everyone in the studio said the score was fine and just blew it off.
“I have since then sent an email to the producer explaining the situation and my dissatisfaction with it,” Shearin said.
