Start blasting the Beatles because the swinging ’60s are back. Last season’s runways shows were crawling with A-line miniskirts, knee high boots and paisley prints, making it quite clear that this decade is getting its second act. Don’t worry, tie dye t-shirts weren’t invited to the party. But although fashion loves to repeat decades, its biggest challenge is keeping that look fresh and current. So if you feel like perfecting that ’60s swing, check out my guide to this new fall trend.
1. Fashionable Four Eyes
As one of the most stylish first ladies, Jackie Kennedy left her mark on the ’60s with her infamous sunglasses. They were often oversized with dark tints that framed the face and accented the cheekbones. To update these shades, I recommend round frames in bold color combinations. My Pick: Sunglass Warehouse
2. A Collar and a Crew Neck
What is our current statement necklace used to be the collar. Simply layer a collared shirt under a high neck line to instantly add interest to a look. For a softer taste, a peter pan collar is best. Funky prints are also an option for a little extra flare. My Pick: ModCloth
4. A-Line for an A+
Because 60s gals opted for shorter hem lengths, they also needed a dress that gave them enough room to boogie to The Beach Boys. The A-Line, which dropped straight from the shoulders and flared at the hips was the perfect silhouette for the job. Large, mirrored prints or simple stripes will transition this look for your wardrobe. My Pick: ASOS
6. Baby Heels
Although a 4-inch pump is always flattering, a sweet kitten heel can also create a sleek shape. By lightly elevating the leg, proportions are lengthened without the fear of tripping in stilettos. Choose a pair with a slender look to balance out the short heel. My Pick: Nordstrom
