LifeLines will meet on Oct. 1 at 7:10 a.m. in the community room to discuss plans for Red Ribbon Week, which will take place Oct. 23-31.
Sponsor Rebekah Overbey said Red Ribbon Week is the first big event for the club.
“(It’s the) first time this year that we’ll hopefully do events that will encourage students to stop and think about the choices they make, about not doing drugs and alcohol, about making good decisions for themselves and their friends, wearing their seatbelts, not texting while they’re driving (and doing) things that can save their lives,” Overbey said. “I would say the majority of our students do a great job, but there’s a lot that still, whether it’s peer influence or just struggling to fit in because we’re such a big school, whatever the reasons, or just angry, we want to help them to work through those issues but make better choices in the meantime and not do something that would harm themselves or others.”
Member and junior Erica Toomey said the club has added bullying to the agenda this year as well.
“We added the bullying branch this year,” Toomey said. “There’s things on social media where people are always like saying mean things to each other. It’s a lot of cyber bullying going on and not as much physical bullying as there is cyber bullying, but we’re trying to tackle both of those.”
