As Thanksgiving break has started and we prepare for a delicious turkey (or other meat) meal, it’s time to let loose and relax with our pants unbuttoned. What better way to have fun than read about the countless adventures available in the marvelous country of Denmark? While we slowly pack on the pounds this Turkey Day, let’s imagine all the exciting attractions in the world’s second oldest amusement park.
Though it sounds like a foreign pasta dish, Tivoli is a large amusement park located in Copenhagen and outfitted with roller coasters, lights and music. The rides within this children’s dreamland include the Demon (Daemonen in Danish) and the Golden Tower. The Demon goes through three loops and reaches 28 meters (about 92 feet) at its apex. The Golden Tower, true its name, is a 63-meter (207-foot) drop tower. For those who are more faint of heart, you can always try out the adorable Flying Trunk, which is similar to the It’s A Small World ride at Disney World, as it journeys through 32 of Hans Christian Andersen’s (if you didn’t already know, Andersen was a Dane) fairytales.
In the background of all this is live music: Tivoli contains three outdoor venues where Danish and international artists perform. Also, in the summer, at 10:45 p.m. Tivoli lights up the Tivoli Lake with its Tivoli Illuminations. (Wow, that was a lot of “Tivoli” in one sentence.) The Tivoli Illuminations include a show of light, water, fire and smoke. Tivoli also contains a garden that offers green oases, fountains and an artificial waterfall.
