Members of the community participated in the annual Ghost and Goblins 5k/2k last weekend, creating success for National Honor Society (NHS) and the Carmel Education Foundation (CEF). The event ran smoothly, allowing NHS and CEF to easily work together to continue the Carmel tradition.
This year 1000 people registered, but a small majority participated in the race. Nicholas “Nick” Schipp, NHS member and senior, said there were too many volunteers because a lot more people were expected to participate.
“Preparing to volunteer, we were told it was going to be super busy and we had to funnel people into certain directions so that people weren’t just hanging out and getting in the way of the event, but we didn’t have to do that,” said Schipp. “We prepared for a lot worse than it actually was.”
NHS sponsor Susan Johnson also said that the Ghost and Goblins 5k/2k was a success. She said NHS volunteers were dedicated to helping participants and CEF was satisfied with the results.
“Our business relationship with CEF ran smoothly, so there’s really not any negatives,” said Johnson. “Everybody had a lot of fun and the race went really well.”
Johnson also said NHS’s main focus for the month of November will be supporting the Ronald McDonald House through food and toy drives. The charity helps families that have kids with cancer, providing a place for families to stay so they can be close to their children.
Johnson said, “They are always in need of food because they make meals there. The toys are for the kids, just to give them some comfort and happiness.”
