Shubhi Sinha, Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) member and senior, participates in a CMYC meeting. CMYC sponsor Kelli Prader said council members such as Sinha will each be donating three toys to the National Junior Honors Society toy drive.
According to Kelli Prader, Carmel Mayor’s Youth Council (CMYC) sponsor, this year’s National Junior Honors Society (NJHS) toy drive will take place on Dec. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Freshman Cafeteria. In a change from previous years, when the donated toys went to the Julian Center, the toy drive will benefit the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and School.
Prader said that, also unlike last year, the NJHS chapters from all three middle schools will be involved in the toy drive.
“It sounds like there’s going to be a lot more representation from all three middle schools, so I’m excited,” Prader said.
Rik Bag, CMYC president and senior, said the decision for CHS to host the toy drive instead of Clay Middle School came as a result of this increased representation. Bag said more NJHS members will be participating in the event than last year, and so more space is needed for the event.
“We’re expecting to have a little bit more toys (than in past years), just depending on how many kids end up showing up from NJHS,” Bag said. “I’m feeling pretty good that we’ll up the form.”
