The Mock Trial defense team will participate in their first competition of the season Feb. 13 after cancellations last month because of the harsh winter weather in Indiana. The competitors, according to the coach Robert Browning, include: senior Christina Yang, juniors Lina Waseem and Becca Counen, sophomore Zoe Edwards and freshman Laila Betancourt. The plaintiff team will spectate. After this competition, the whole team will participate in the Indianapolis Regional Competition Feb. 16 at the Indianapolis City-County Building.
Betancourt said she looks forward to this week’s schedule.
“I’m really excited to compete in Regional because Mock Trial is something that’s really fun and something that the team has put a lot of effort into. I can’t wait to see how we do,” Betancourt said.
Freshman Janani Eswaran, who competes on the plaintiff team, said she gained a positive experience from her second ever competition on Feb. 6
Eswaran said, “It’s pretty thrilling being up there in court and having to think quickly before giving the right answers. As a witness, it’s been cool not only seeing the law side of things, but learning how to act and portray a character.”
