German exchange students left, will remember America traditions

Carmel High School said goodbye to the 18 German students and teachers. German Teacher Angelika Becker said, “They cried when they left. I had to yell three times for them to get in the car. I thought they were going to miss their flight.”

The exchange students came to Carmel Oct. 19 and stayed with families in Carmel until Oct. 29, when they left the United States. German student Christina Grubler said, “The houses are so much bigger than me house in Germany.”

Becker said, “We’ve started lifelong friendships with them and the families that they stayed with adopted them into their lifestyle.” Part of that lifestyle included trying new foods. According to Becker, pop tarts were the favorite. Different types of American candies were popular too.

Carmel is offering an Exchange student program in June. The students will go to the town outside Berlin that the German students from. By Catelyn Carpenter <[email protected]>
