The women’s golf team will compete in the Miller Golf Girls Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 12, in Noblesville. According to Dan Patane, assistant coach of the women’s golf team, 4 top ten teams (Westfield, Center Grove, Noblesville, and Hamilton Southeastern) are competing, making the competition fierce.
Despite the competition, Patane said the team is aiming to win.
“The plan is to play as well as possible one through five, and walk away as Invitational Champions,” he said.
Senior Katie Kuc said she agreed.
“There are definitely some good teams but we feel pretty confident in our games right now. The team is definitely looking for a win on Saturday and just to play well as a team,” she said.
The women’s golf team has made several adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including wearing masks and not taking a team bus to meets.
According to Patane, compliance with the new guidelines in women’s golf has gone “as well as we could have hoped and expected.”
“They get it,” he said, “they understand the reality of the situation and what’s at stake if any of them are exposed to COVID.”
Kuc said she agreed that while the new guidelines are not ideal, they are necessary.
“(It) definitely sucks that it is different, but I’m glad we at least get to play,” Kuc said.
