What exactly is this competition?
NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences), Emmys Student Production Awards. Basically, it is judged by a national board for television awards. First, I competed in the regional competition. I was a part of the Great Central Lakes region, and from there I was chosen to move on to the national competition.
How can students get involved with this?
People can get involved by taking the television and broadcasting class at our school. I am so happy that I took that class because I can get to do things that I really enjoy here now.
What was your favorite part of going through this process?
My favorite part about this whole thing was the editing. I got to experiment with a lot of new styles, techniques and learned a lot. I did have to watch a lot of YouTube tutorials but it paid off in the end. I really wanted to expand my knowledge of editing as well.
How did you get involved with this?
Basically, one summer my cousin and I were really into watching edits on the internet. We both decided that we wanted to try it ourselves, and downloaded the software Adobe After Effects. We watched tons of YouTube tutorials, and in the end she stopped editing but I kept trying with it and experimenting with it. When I was a freshman, I was going to join the yearbook here but my brother told me that if I was interested in editing I should join CHTV. The whole video editing thing really stuck with me.
