Quiz Bowl members recently competed in the Anita Zuber Memorial Tournament with the club’s junior varsity team emerging victorious in their division. Following their latest victory, Quiz Bowl has begun preparing to host the 3rd Carmel Greyhound Invitation (CGIII) at CHS on Nov. 23. According to Anjali Prasad, club officer and junior, a total of about eight teams will be participating in the tournament, three of which will be from CHS.
“It’s going to be structured mostly like a normal Quiz Bowl tournament,” Prasad said. “We’ll play some round robin matches in the morning, and in the afternoon we’ll do some rebracketting, and then we’ll have playoff rounds. At the end of that, we should be able to determine a winner.”
The CGIII serves as a good way to raise money for national tournaments in May, said club sponsor Matthew Cinkoske.
“It encourages a lot of local teams to come out,” Cinkoske said. “We usually even get a few people from as far as South Bend.”
According to Cinkoske and Prasad, executive members and officers will be playing primary roles in setting up and organizing the competition rather than competing in the matches. Prasad said she would be reading questions and scorekeeping during the tournament.
“It’s a really good opportunity for our students who don’t always play varsity, or younger students, or even seniors who haven’t had the chance to do Quiz Bowl as often, to play in a competition,” Cinkoske added.
