A Look At The ’90’s

Ah, the ’90’s. My Favorite decade ever. Who of us doesn’t have fond memories of the age of grunge music. Rugrats, Nirvana, Clinton. I personally loved the music from the ’90’s. I never thought I’d like No Doubt, but there is a certain magic about the ’90’s that can make almost any music wonderful. Yes, even Justin Beiber.

When you talk about music and pop culture from the ’90’s you have to talk about Nirvana. They put the “cult” in culture. I know of people who are obsessed about Nirvana and practically worship Kurt Cobain as a martyr. I also know people who thought that Nirvana was overrated. Whatever your opinion is, my opinion deals with cultural impact. We could argue about the musical quality and validity of Nirvana’s work for an eternity (And we do. Quite often), but you would find it nearly impossible to challenge their impact and importance on pop culture. They symbolized the new youth, a youth that was tired of their conformist parents. They opened a channel of rebellion, openness, and brutal honesty.

Now that I have made the obligatory Nirvana mention, let’s get into my favorites. Top of the list is The Cardigans. I will now let my normal readers look up / try to remember who they are, while my hipster audience will nod in acknowledgement. You will most likely know The Cardigans from their song “Lovefool,” but they have so many other awesome songs. One of their most under appreciated songs, “No Sleep,” is my favorite song to listen to and sing. The Cardigans should be the most popular band in the world.

Yoou should go change their under rated status. You should go listen to them. Go. Now

There also a bunch of random songs and bands from the ’90’s I liked, but if I listed them you all would get bored and stop reading my blog.

But I would like to end this post in the perfect way to end anything ever, with the lyrics of “Closing Time” by Semisonic.

Closing time
Open all the doors and let you out into the world
Closing time
Turn all of the lights on over every boy and every girl

Closing time
One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or beer
Closing time
You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

(Also, Nina Persson is the most beautiful woman in the world)
