According to Mason Yao, Breakdancing Club co-president and senior, Breakdancing Club has returned with a new sponsor and a more consistent program. The club meets every Tuesday after school in the main lobby near the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.
“This year, we’ve legitimatized it with a sponsor,” Yao said. “This allows meetings more regularly since we were mostly underground in previous years.”
Breakdancing Club promotes hip-hop and teaches people how to dance. It hosts battles and also works closely with Global Giving and Carmel’s Best Dance Crew, according to Leo Kim, Breakdancing Club member and junior.
“It’s just for fun; you don’t have to be committed,” Kim said.
The new sponsor, Lacey Grabek, agreed to become sponsor for this year, and she said she is glad her sponsorship can justify the club. “Some boys came to me and asked if I would do it. I did it for them, so they could do what they wanted,” Grabek said. “Hopefully they have a good year.”
