Justin Bieber’s Christmas Album- And other Winter Music

I apologize for being silent as of late, I have been busy with a number of different things, including Holiday Spectacular (Which inspired this post) and my debut column in the next issue of the HiLite. I think you all will like it, it involves Britney Spears.

Now before we begin, I would like to take these few lines and preemptively apologize to my friend, Caitie Ward. I understand she really enjoys this album, but justice has to be served.

I really respect Justin Bieber’s musical talent, he is a better drummer and, overall, musician than I am. And maybe a better singer. So when I heard he did a rendition of “Little Drummer Boy,” I gave him the benefit of the doubt and listened to it. And well- I am not quite sure how to describe it. Just listen to it for yourselves. I could not even make it a minute in. It sounded like something a DJ would play at an all ages club. Justin Bieber butchered one of the most emotional and significant songs in history. He needs to sit in a corner and think about what he has done.

Now I am not saying that Justin Bieber could never make the song amazing, if he did a simple vocal and piano version of the song, it could sound amazing. It would probably be on my top Christmas songs. Busta Rhymes should never be in any classic Christmas songs. No one, no matter how good, should ever rap in a traditional Christmas songs. Shame on all of those who break these rules.

In good Christmas music news, I have a list of amazing songs you all should listen to. There is A Rocket to the Moon cover of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” It is my favorite rendition of this song yet. Sara Bareilles did an awesome song for those of you who miss the summer, a very emotional “Winter Song” with Ingrid Michaelson. Speaking of Ingrid, she did a somber, almost poetic song a few years back, “Men of Snow.”

I agree. I don’t think rap songs will ever find a place in Christmas.
