Academic Decathlon had a successful call-out meeting with many returning and new members of the team.
According to Emily Weerakkody, club president and junior, the call-out meeting was much earlier this year because most teams they compete against study all summer, as well as into the school year.
“If we came in second place at the State competition and didn’t even have a team until October, we’ll do even better at the competition by studying this summer,” Weerakkody said.
Weerakkody said testing for honors, varsity and scholastic members will be sometime in May.
Amira Malcolm, returning honors member and junior, said,” Our team last year started out discombobulated, but then we all got really close. We studied together and we just all want to continue the legacy.”
The team celebrated the end of their competition season by having a team dinner at Bazbeaux.
“The team really did become like a family,” Weerakkody said. “My only wish is that next year is just as memorable.”
