In a recent Jewish Student Union (JSU) meeting, co-presidents Brett Gerstein and Frankie Salzman have decided to host its own Hanukkah party. It will be on Dec. 11 after school in the main cafeteria until 4:35 p.m.
“Brett and Frankie took the idea
from the (city-wide Hanukkah party), made a few adjustments and brought it to CHS,” sponsor Shelly Rubinstein said.
“I thought the idea was cool and I wished that everyone at Carmel could experience it,” Gerstein said.
According to Gerstein, the party will not only be a Jewish party, but will also have elements that a regular party would have. Gerstein said, “It’s kind of a mixed-culture event. We will have food, games, and other party stuff from both sides of the spectrum to appeal to more people.”
Also, JSU has planned to have a “Secret Santa” type event, but it will be named “The Unmentionable Mensch,” referring to somebody that is noble. Gerstein said, “This is a fun way to celebrate the holiday season with a modern twist.”
