Members of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) are organizing a bake sale to raise funds for the group, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer. The time of the bake sale is still undecided, but according to Katie Ingersoll, cl
ub president and junior, the sale will take place during the week of finals or the week before.
“This fundraiser is for us, and then we will organize one later in the year for our causes,” Ingersoll said. The fundraisers that the FCCLA organizes later in the year are Share Our Strength for child hunger and March of Dimes for children with birth defects, according to Spencer.
It is important to the club that they also raise money for themselves, according to Taylor Farmer, club vice president and junior. “The fundraiser is for furthering leadership opportunities of the students of Carmel High School,” he said.
The Cluster meeting the club attended on Nov. 16 and 17 went very well for those who attended, according to Ingersoll. At the meeting, club members meet with students from other FCCLA chapters, from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan. “We went to a lot of workshops about how to run our chapters and increase membership,” Ingersoll said.
The club has increased its membership from 51 to 54 since November, according to Farmer. “That’s really important because it means we met our goal and we get a ribbon at State,” Ingersoll said.
