On Dec. 17, Jeff Swensson, Superintendent of the Carmel Clay Schools, informed the Carmel Clay Schools Board of Education that he will resign from his post on June 30, 2013. Swensson could not be reached for a comment.
During his announcement, Swensson compared the school district to running a relay race, saying that operating the district is “decidedly a team effort.”
“Our relay race as a team involves exemplary colleagues, a very dedicated staff, involved parents and guardians, engaged students, interested citizens and community groups and a very passionate board of education,” he said.
According to Swensson, as superintendent he has been responsible for “leading while monitoring our progress.”
“Monitoring our progress… has always been something that allows our school district to create winning conditions for our young people,” he said, “and monitoring progress ensures that the leadership baton is exchanged at the best possible time.”
Swensson stressed that the board “needs ample time” to find his successor. He also took the time to thank the students and their families, his “truly outstanding CCS colleagues,” the Board of Education and the “many partners and friends of the Carmel Clay Schools” as well as offered his best wishes.
According to a press release from the superintendent’s office, the board appreciates Swensson’s service.
“The Board is grateful for the positive leadership Jeff has provided this community as the Superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools,” said Layla Spanenberg, Board of Education President, in the release. “His unwavering focus on what is best for our students has continued to support this high-performing school district. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
