Best Buddies plans to participate in the Best Buddies Friendship Walk, which will be held on April 28 at White River State Park Canal in Indianapolis. According to Rachael Klippel, club president and senior, chapters from all over Indiana will be there to help raise money for the program. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is open online on the Best Buddies Indiana website.
Club sponsor Dana Lawrence said, “It’s just fun to see the peers with their buddies, and they get exercise too.”
According to Klippel, proceeds from the fundraiser go to the state program, not directly to individual Best Buddies chapters in Indiana. Klippel said the chapter gets the money back with the support it receives from the headquarters in Indiana.
After the walk, participants will be allowed to go to Military Park for a celebration with food and activities.
Club treasurer and sophomore Jack Flowers said, “We are hoping that these types of events out of school will increase the bonds between the buddies and peer buddies and we want them to be really comfortable with each other.”
