All telecommunications classes are working on short films, which will be aired on a screening day in the media center at the end of the year, according to CHTV sponsor Erin Thorpe
Thorpe said that one reason she assigned this project was because many competitions include a section for short films.
“This is the first time we’ve done short films,” Thorpe said. “There’s a lot of short film competitions including the Heartland film festival. Also at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasting conference, there is a category for short film and entertainment, so it’s just a category that we’d like to get into.”
Ryan Beery, intercommunications student and junior, said that he is currently writing proposals for the project.
“For the short film project, we are starting the pre-production by making treatments and proposals for what our groups are going to be doing,” Beery said. “Since prom is coming up, we were thinking about doing a small film of a guy thinking of how he’ll ask a girl to prom. At the big screening day, it’ll be interesting to see all the ideas from other groups and what they come up with.”
Thorpe also said that this project is a great wrap-up to demonstrate all the skills the students have learned and is an opportunity for students to be creative.
Thorpe said, “This is a unique opportunity because most of the stuff we do is cut and dry. It’s news and sports broadcasting. This really allows people to get outside the box and really do something different.”
