Carmel Connects members meet every Monday after school to repurpose old computers. The club is currently working on refurbishing computers, which a nonprofit organization, NetLiteracy, will later distribute to the Indiana Deaf School.
Krishna Pathak, club member and junior, said, “These netbooks will help the students at the Indiana Deaf School because they will be able to carry them around everywhere they go to assist them in communication with people, wherever they are, as opposed to just in the school.”
According to Pathak, a batch of 50 to 75 computers will be sent to the school. He said the club is unsure when they will expect to send them because they are still making sure the netbooks are in good quality.
Club sponsor Margaret Winans said Carmel Connects hopes to recruit more members in order to speed up the distributing process. She said, “We want more members because then we can repurpose computers at an even faster rate. Our goal is to repurpose as many computers as possible.”
The next Carmel Connects meeting will be on May 5 in Room F104.
