On Jan. 12, the school board will undergo a restructuring, by which school board members elected for new terms will be sworn into office by Judge Gail Bardach. School board president Layla Spanenberg and school board member Pamela Knowles were elected into new terms in the election last November. In addition, Michael Kerschner, school board member-elect, won a position on the school board after losing an at-large election in 2012.
“We will have one of the judges come in and have (the restructuring) ceremony for us,” Spanenberg said. “And then, we’ll get business started as usual.”
According to Spanenberg, the past election has been one of the first “in a number of years” in which all school board candidates ran unopposed.
“I would like to think we went unopposed because the public is very confident in what we’re doing and pleased with the direction the superintendent and the board are taking the district.” Spanenberg said.
Senior class president Krishna Pathak said he is happy that there is a new member of the school board.
“I think Mike Kerschner’s a pretty qualified person for our school board just as much as the others are. (I’m) glad we do have a new (school board member), though because for the past couple of years, we’ve had the same ones. That’s why even three of them went for re-election unopposed. So I think it’s good we have a new face every now and then.”
