According to Melinda Stephan, College and Career Resource Center programming coordinator, there will be a College Education Boot Camp available in June and August for rising seniors for $30. Stephan said the event will act as a “crash course” on how to apply to college.
Juniors who sign up are required to attend two sessions in the morning or afternoon on June 1 and 2 or August 3 and 4. As of right now, Stephan said that the classes are filling up fast, but if the demand grows, the counseling center may add more sessions later in the upcoming school year.
“Its gonna be great for students who need help getting started (applying to college) or maybe they kind of generally know what they are doing but they want some more details,” Stephan said.
Additionally, there will be a board of college representatives who will give advice on how to write college essays.
“I’m really excited about it, that we will be using college reps,” Stephan said. “So (the students) are going to hear about college essays from people who read college essays, not just me telling them about it.”
Junior Gretchen Gregor said she will not be attending the boot camp but thinks it is a great idea.
Gregor said, “I think it’s a great way for students who aren’t really sure about the college application process to learn about how to do it.”
