The CHS Theater is to rehearse for its winter production, “Romeo and Juliet.” The well-known play by William Shakespeare is about two teenagers named Romeo and Juliet who fall in love but are forbidden to be together because they come from rivaling families. The show will run from Feb. 4 to 6.
Freshman Bridget Chemberlin plays a servant to one of the feuding families in “Romeo and Juliet” and inadvertently creates an unwanted encounter between the two main characters.
“(I can relate to my character because) sometimes you don’t know the relations between people and you accidentally mess up something up between them,” Chemberlin said.
According to theater director Maggie Cassidy, the CHS theater is doing a shorter, 90-minute adaptation that still incorporates all the main elements of the original play. Additionally, the rendition will also be set in modern times to relate more to teenagers today.
“(The show is) going to have great music, it’s going to have great costumes, it’s a timeless story and we’re going to try to make it as accessible as possible to adults and teenagers alike for this generation, and it’s something that they can truly understand and enjoy,” Cassidy said.
Tickets can be purchased starting Jan. 13 at the bookstore or online at ticketracker.com.
