For the third year in a row, the Class of 2011 will be supporting Joy’s House during this year’s Homecoming Week. The festivities kick off on Sept. 26 with the Homecoming 5K Charity Walk/Run and will conclude the following Saturday, with the school-wide dance.
Class sponsor Ann Mayhew said Joy’s House, which is “basically an adult daycare,” was decided as the class’s charity two years ago and has stuck as the class’s charity for each year following.
The class, like every other, will raise money by constructing a playhouse and other school-wide events such as the annual 5K run for charities. Mayhew said the class has been fairly well motivated in past years.
According to class president Jeremy Weprich, the juniors will participate in events that all classes take part in, like Homecoming Week and other school-wide events, but in addition they also take on the role of party-planners for prom in May.
“Every class does something individually, like sophomores plan prom breakfast and juniors plan the entire dance,” Weprich said.
While the Class of 2011 is experiencing what is commonly referred to as the most challenging year of high school, both Weprich and Mayhew agreed there is still plenty to do besides homework. Mayhew said because the class as a whole, but in particular the student government, has been very well organized and, if the class desires, more independent and strictly class events are welcome to be organized.
