On Dec. 1, the Academic Competition Team (A.C.T.) will play their next White River Academic League match against Warren Central at CHS. The varsity team is coming off of their first loss of the season, however, the junior varsity team is still undefeated. A.C.T. coach John Shearin said the team is well prepared for both this upcoming match as well as the rest of the season.
“I think (the team) is doing excellently this year. I like how well the upperclassmen are performing, but I am also very impressed with how the underclassmen are coming along. With many of my top players leaving this year, I am not worried about the future of the team,” Shearin said.
Ben Goldberg, A.C.T. member and junior, also said he believes the team is ready for Thursday’s match, and said the team is playing great overall.
“I think our team could improve specifically in the rounds with the packets, where they ask you a series of questions in order, but, other than that, I’d say we are pretty rock-solid,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg, who has experienced being on the team for multiple years, said he enjoys his time participating on the team.
He said, “I enjoy being on the A.C.T. because at every one of our Monday practices, there’s like a good sense of comradery and we’re all like friends. It’s a great time, and we’re making ourselves better at the same time.”
