On Sept. 18, Tailgate for Life will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. after school in the home-side parking lot of the stadium. Live bands, raffle contests, and unlimited food and drink will all be paid for by the $5 ticket.
House sponsor Sarah Wolff said the money from the ticket sales will go toward the creation of a scholarship dedicated to Stephen Backer, a former president of the school board, who passed away in March of 2009, after a struggle with a progressive cancer. Each year, she said, the proceeds of Tailgate for Life go to a different charity.
The bands that will play live at the stadium are the Gnashers and the Two-Man Bandits, according to Wolff. The WHJE radio station will also air during the event, she said.
Throughout the concert, Wolff said, students can win raffle prizes, including a $25 gift certificate to the mall. The organizers may set up other activities like corn hole, she said, if the turnout is large enough.
According to Wolff, the tickets will be the same price at the door, though members of the House cabinet would rather students purchase the tickets beforehand.
“House Cabinet, which runs Tailgate, has this sort of competition going on,” Wolff said. “Whoever sells the most tickets will get a special prize from (speaker of the House) Sunny – ice cream from Baskin-Robbins, just for that person.”
