Carmel’s junior varsity men’s soccer team has undergone a lot of reconstruction along with its varsity team. While the varsity team lost 13 players, the former JV team is subjected to change as well. With so many openings in the varsity squad, former JV players have the opportunity to step up while others play another year on JV. Along with the shift from JV to varsity, some players aren’t even playing this year.
“I tried out for the team, and didn’t make it,” said Eric Schmitt, former defender and junior.
“I understand that the team is going through some major changes to better the team’s success rate. I guess I just got unlucky,” he said.
Junior Beau Tiongson has played JV for two years and said that it’s for the better. Tiongson plays keeper and said he plans to play next year as well.
“As a goalie, it doesn’t bother me that I didn’t make varsity because JV really just gives me more practice for next year,” said Tiongson.
“Just because the team is different, doesn’t mean I’m not going to root for them,” Schmitt said. “I have always supported the JV team, and this year is not different, except that I’ll be supporting from the stands.”
