After wrapping up homecoming festivities, Senate members are beginning to organize Care to Share, which will take place at the end of November. Senator and junior Sophie Parker said Care to Share is a community outreach program that the Senate puts on and allows for SRTs to raise money for families in the Carmel area.
“SRTs pledge a specific amount of money to raise to buy gift cards for families that are less fortunate in the Carmel area, and then these gift cards are then given to the families so they can buy gifts for their family during the holiday season,” Parker said.
Aside from Care to Share, Parker said Senate members are also preparing for the winter formal that will be happening in December.
“A lot goes into the winter formal, because of it not having any PTO involvement. We have to organize the tickets, market the dance, we have to pick out the date and reserve the spaces we want to use in the school, as well as decorations and theme,” she said.
Along with event planning, senators are also preparing for school bus driver appreciation week. Student Government sponsor Michelle Foutz said Senate members prepared over the break.
“We did custodian appreciation the week before break, so during fall break senate members (had to) prepare and organize what they want to do for the school bus drivers to show appreciation,” Foutz said.
