The Hip Hop Club, formerly known as the Breakdancing Club, is abandoning its attempts to produce a video announcement for now due to copyright issues and instead is trying to communicate with students differently. The club is also working to expand its program by practicing with nearby schools. The Hip Hop Club meets every Tuesday after school until 5 p.m. in the main lobby near the Dale E. Graham Auditorium.
Due to a new policy forbidding copyrighted music, the club has not been able to air any video announcements.
“We’re not airing any trailers now,” Leo Kim, Hip Hop Club member and junior, said. “Instead, we’re trying to grow through word of the mouth and Facebook.”
The Hip Hop Club also plans to enlarge their program by working with other schools in the nearby area.
“We’ve been expanding this year,” Kim said. “I’ve been talking to other schools and seeing if we could start collaborating and practicing with them.”
Kim said schools such as Hamilton Southeastern High School and Indianapolis Public Schools are up for consideration.
“It is a great way to meet new people and to try something new,” sponsor Lacey Grabek said. “Everyone is very welcoming and eager to help others and to learn themselves.”
