Chess Club members continue to make preparations for the U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) tournament they will host this April. Club T-shirt sales will start soon, as the club officers intend to have them ready before the tournament.
According to Andrew Kluttz, club officer and sophomore, the tournament was approved. Although there is not yet a set date, Kluttz said that the tournament will most likely take place sometime in April.
“We are planning on having two teams for the team State Championship,” said Kluttz. Internal club tournaments decide these teams. According to club officer and senior Brian McDonald, so far Sameer Manchanda, Youkow Homma and Brian have clinched positions, and the last position is currently being contested between club members Kluttz, freshman Matthew McDonald and senior Connor Dunn.
Matthew said he is excited about the tournament.
“I didn’t know it had been approved. I’m definitely going,” McDonald said.
“We are going to win the State Championship, so be ready,” McDonald said.
