Members of The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will attend the State conference, from March 7 to March 9, according to Aliya Malcom, club vice president of communications and junior. The conference will include opportunities for the members of the FCCLA to compete in Students Taking Action with Recognition events, or STAR events. “We’re just going to win,” said first vice president and junior Taylor Farmer.
Club members have a large variety of events to choose from, including food innovations, applied technology, fashion construction, and entrepreneurship, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer. “I’m participating in a mock job interview,” said Farmer. He said that he hopes at least one of the members participating will be accepted to the national competition.
The FCCLA will have its annual fundraiser, March of Dimes, on May 18, according to Malcom. The charity is for children with birth defects. According to Farmer, the club, however, is focusing on State Conference at the moment. “Fundraising is on the backburner right now,” Farmer said.
The FCCLA has 59 members, the same as last month. It is the club’s first month of not increasing its membership. The club, however, has never been bigger before, according to Malcom. “It’s just a really good year for FCCLA,” she said.
