CHS’s performing arts departments will present Tarzan May 15 through May 19. All performances except for the Sunday 2 p.m. matinee will be at 7:30 p.m. and are expected to run around two and a half hours. The musical will feature junior Ian Bossung in the lead as Tarzan. Admission prices will run from $8 to $18 depending on location in the auditorium. While only 62 performers will be visible on stage, around 150 more will be active participants in the musical, performing tasks from moving scenery to playing the score.
According to choir teacher Lamonte Kuskye, his favorite part of the musical is the theme.
Kuskye said, “It’s the theme of the show I’m so attached to because I think it represents the theme of our whole department.” The theme Kuskye is referring to? Acceptance. Kuskye went on to describe the performing arts department as “one big family” and that an important part of their work was “accepting our differences.”
Ambassador and junior Ian Jones agreed with Kuskye, stating that he believed that many of those in the performing arts had a strong sense of acceptance. He also referred to the department as being like a family, and that “kids in (the performing arts) like having that sense of belonging.”
