The Carmel Education Foundation (CEF) will post scholarship opportunities online on Dec. 20. The 68 different scholarships will be available through ScholarSelect. Each scholarship will have different criterion, but not all are based on grades.
“Some of it is on grade point average, some of it is on the particular college; some of it is on an activity or a sport, and some of them do have essays that go along with the particular scholarship,” Stephanie McDonald said, co-executive director of the CEF. “They’re not lengthy essays at all. Typically a couple of paragraphs will do it.”
Senior Sasha Scott said the amount of scholarships is a great opportunity for college-bound seniors.
“The variety of scholarships (CEF provides) is really great,” Scott said. “The more opportunities there are, the better chances I have. It would be extremely difficult to pay for college without them.”
Also in December, the CEF will do teacher honor rolls. Teacher honor rolls allow students and families to recognize and thank teachers. There will be a certificate given to the teacher, and the money donated will be put into grants for teachers.
“It’s a great thing to do for the holidays,” said McDonald. “It’s one of our big pushes that is a good way to thank everybody and do something for the CEF at the same time.”
