Rising Stars members form groups ahead of the meeting to plan for possible upcoming events and discuss new club activities. “With committees, members can have a bigger impact on the club instead of having the board control everything,” Warnock said.
Rising Stars will have its next meeting on Dec. 5 after school in the Studio Theater room.
According to Amanda Warnock, junior class representative, the meeting will feature the annual white-elephant gift exchange.
“We sit in a circle and pass around the gifts. Someone tells a story and that decides which way the gifts go. The idea is that in the end you end up with a gift that’s not your own,” Warnock said.
According to Warnock, the gifts should be something of small value. In addition to the gift exchange, there will be milk cookies which are also an annual tradition.
Despite the cold weather, the meeting will be beach themed. However, Warnock said, the costumes should be appropriate for school.
“Each meeting has a specific theme, such as Halloween or Christmas,” Jim Peterson, sponsor of the club, said.
“We decided to mix up all of our meeting themes this year,” Warnock said. “But no bikinis or shorts or anything like that (at this meeting).”
According to Warnock, there is currently nothing else planned in the near future for the club.
Additional information is on the club’s Facebook page.
