The school will host a Financial Aid Night for seniors on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, according to College and Career counselor Linda Christy. The event will provide information for college-bound seniors about scholarships and other financial aid opportunities, including the FAFSA.
“FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s an application for students who are getting ready to go to college,” Christy said. “It’s how colleges determine their financial need. Based on that information determines how a college, what they call financially packages a student, to help them be able to go to college.”
Christy also said that there would be representatives who will be going over the specifics of how to fill out the FAFSA, who it’s for, and answer any questions that families have about the form.
“They’re going to be talking about the number of scholarships, and how to go online to apply for those scholarships. We will have a speaker coming from Indiana Wesleyan who’s background was director of financial aid at Indiana University. He will present to our families about the FAFSA, go over any changes in federal aid, talk about how to fill out the form, and address any questions parents have about financial aid,” she said.
Senior Jesse Smith says he plans to apply for FAFSA.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to try to get some extra money,” Smith said. “I’m going to a private college, so any little bit will help, so might as well.”
