Global Giving has scheduled a benefit concert for March 21 in the auditorium, according to Jessica Chiang, Global Giving club president and senior. The event is open to anyone who would like to attend. For those interested in performing in this event, Chiang said for now, they can just Facebook message her. All of the details for this event have not been decided yet, but will be discussed in the upcoming club meeting on March 3.
Chiang said, “I got our benefit concert approved, so we’re definitely going to be discussing that, like what the ticket prices are, and if we want to sell any food there, how we’re going to advertise, and all the technical stuff.”
As for now, Chiang said she does not know if there will be a ticket price to attend and perform because she doesn’t want the price to deter people from attending. If the club decides to not have a ticket price, then donations will be accepted during the event. During the next meeting, the club will decide whether they want the money raised to go to Operation Smiles or Ronald McDonald House, or if the money should be split in half to go to both.
“I had originally intended that my a cappella group would be performing, and I was wondering if any other musical artists would want to perform as well because I know like just in orchestra alone, there are a lot of people who have other talents outside of their string instrument, so I just wanted to showcase those talents. We definitely just want to get enough publicity for the musicians we have at school. ” Chiang said.
As for the dance jam that the club has been planning, Chiang said Alex Yu, Hip-Hop Club president and junior, and she are working together to plan the event out which will take place in April. Chiang is working to get the event approved by the administration before any other details get planned out. The other event that the club has been discussing is the Ping-Pong tournament. Chiang says this event will not be happening this year due to time issues. More details will be discussed at the next club meeting. According to sponsor Ryan Ringenberg, anyone wanting to join the club can still join.
