The women’s soccer team will travel to Zionsville on Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. for the semi-final of the IHSAA Regional against Cathedral after defeating Guerin Catholic 2-1 on Oct. 8. Trailing 1-0 against Guerin Catholic with less than 10 minutes remaining, junior Christine Gordon assisted to senior Brooke Backes for a header goal. With just under five minutes remaining, Gordon scored from 25 yards out to put Carmel in the lead.
In the first meeting of the season between Cathedral and Carmel on Sept. 21, Carmel defeated Cathedral 2-1.
Junior Molly Pittman said the players are not yet satisfied with their season. “We want to continue to prove our first in the state ranking,” Pittman said.
“Soccer can be a cruel sport at times and often teams cannot find a way back from that deficit. However, this team doesn’t quit and they found a way to score two goals in the last seven minutes to win a game that probably should have been ours much earlier,” head coach Frank Dixon said via email. “Every game these players give me another reason to be proud of them.”
The winner of this game will compete in the IHSAA Regional Championship on Oct. 15 at Zionsville.
