On March 7, the men’s basketball team defeated the Zionsville Eagles 47-43 in the first round of the Sectional in Noblesville. As a result, the Greyhounds will advance to the Sectional semifinal and face the North Central Panthers on March 7 in Noblesville.
“That was the first time all year that we had a situation where we were down by a good amount late in the game,” Head Coach Scott Heady said. “(The Greyhounds) had a lot of guys that stepped forward and made big plays down the stretch.”
This matchup is a rematch of a Dec 13, 2013 game at the Eric Clark Activity Center where Carmel defeated North Central 63-51. According to Heady, the team’s approach to this game is the same as every game the Greyhounds played this year. Heady said that North Central has won 11 consecutive games in a row and it will be integral to play hard against their opponent. Forward and junior Keegan Culp is also looking forward to this game. He scored 11 points in the Sectional win against Zionsville and hopes to play well for the Greyhounds.
“We spent time a lot of time preparing for this game by watching film to learn how (North Central) plays,” Culp said.
If Carmel defeats North Central in Sectional semifinal, the men’s basketball team will play the winner of the Hamilton Southeastern vs. Noblesville game in the Sectional championship game on March 8 in Noblesville.
