The baseball team’s next game is against Westfield High School May 2 at Victory Field at 7:30 p.m. This game comes after beating Lawrence North High School 8-4 at Lawrence North.
Daniel Roman, varsity baseball head coach, said via email, “Lawrence North is always a formidable opponent. To play and beat them, you have to play as a team and match their intensity. We did a great job of that.”
Roman said that the chance to play at the outstanding facility of Victory Field, the home of the Indianapolis Indians, is humbling.
He said, “Having coached there a multitude of times, I know what to expect. The players do not. But our outstanding senior leadership will keep us grounded so we can play to our potential. Westfield is good, very good.
Pitcher and junior Nick Maier said he is excited for the game.
“People should expect us to come out and play with intensity and (see) a great game between two top teams in the state,” Maier said.
For the game, Roman said, “We need to keep the game simple and not try to do too much. Victory Field is the best place to play in the state of Indiana…but it’s still just a baseball field. If we keep everything in perspective, we’ll be just fine.”
