According to ComedySportz sponsor Jim Peterson, ComedySportz will hold auditions for the team on Sept. 2. During auditions, students will participate in various games to demonstrate their comedic acting and improvisation abilities. Audition results will be posted on Sept. 9.
This year’s auditions will have a greater focus on small group dynamics than auditions of previous years.
Co-captain and senior Chuck Burton said, “This year we might try some new stuff just to get kids in smaller groups to see how they work specifically with each other instead of how good they are at the games.”
Students can prepare for auditions by attending workshops held during SRT in the Studio Theater on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.
Peterson said, “(SRT workshops) are basically getting together and getting to know the team, getting to know the games in a real low-key, very easy environment. This is because improvisation can have a lot of stress to it, you know you feel like a lot of pressure to be funny like right now and this kind of works through that and it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way. You can be funny without trying.”
Overall, ComedySportz is looking forward to the influx of new talent auditions bring.
Burton said, “(I’m excited) to see what we’re working with as far as talent pool goes, because I know there’s some great up-and-comers and I’m just excited to see what they have to work with and what our team will become for the next year.” By Jessica Konrad
