Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) has a meeting scheduled for April. There is no exact date for the meeting as plans are still underway. The club plans on participating in GLSEN Day of Silence on April 12.
To spread LGBT awareness, Yasmine Pehlivan, club president and junior, said people have to realize that members of the LGBT community are people too.
“(People) have to normalize it internally,” she said the Gay Straight Alliance is a safe place for LGBT and straight people to come together.
Although GSA will not meet on April 12, Pehlivan encourages that members do participate in the event.
Club sponsor Jeremy Horner says the event is more of an individual effort.
According the GLSEN.org, Day of Silence is a day to raise awareness of the erasure of LGBT around the world. By Bianca Templeton
