JV and varsity work together to prepare varsity for State

By: Stephanie Walstrom <[email protected]>

The women’s varsity soccer team, currently ranked Number-1 in the state as of Sept. 18, faces off against a tough competitor nearly every night of the week: the junior varsity team. Julie Faas, head coach for the JV team, said her team is very strong this year. “My goal is for the team to go undefeated this season and help the varsity team win state this year,” she said.

So far, the JV team is meeting those expectations, coming off a 2-0 triumph over Cathedral to boast a spotless 9-0 record. Faas said, “The strength of the JV team makes the varsity work harder because they know there are talented players just waiting for their chance to play the next level.”

According to Taylor Porter, junior varsity soccer player and sophomore, the varsity team members aren’t the only ones benefiting from the scrimmages. “We learn a lot by watching the varsity girls and seeing their moves and how they play together,” Porter said. Faas said it is good for her team to see that, with hard work, they have a chance to play varsity.

Both teams will head to Center Grove tonight. The varsity team will face the Trojans at 7 p.m. in hopes of defending their Number-1 ranking following the 5:30 p.m. JV game. Both teams will play Sacred Heart Academy (KY) tomorrow afternoon at home.
