Math Club competed in the Rose-Hulman on Nov. 9 and took home gold for the thirteenth year in a row. Club president Allison Shen and club sponsor Peter Beck said that they were excited that they won the Rose-Hulman Math Competition again.
“It went so well for our team,” Shen said. “We won first in all of the categories. We just competed in a 60 minute, 20 question math competition [there]. Afterwards, we had a lot of fun touring around campus and learning about the college. We got to meet a lot of people within the state that also did math competitions.”
Rose-Hulman is not the only competition that Math Club is participating in. Math Club last met on Nov. 20 in Room A331 to continue in the next round of the Arete Math Labs competition. The Math Club started this online competition in September and are currently in the elimination rounds.
“I feel like I really enjoy this environment because everyone’s able to compete and have fun doing math,” Shen said. “We have lots of teamwork which makes our team strong.”
“The Arete Math Competition is the [competition] that we’ve been doing consistently week by week,” Beck said. “We have practice rounds and we go head to head against other schools. We’re expecting to win again.”
Additionally, Math Club will not be having a meeting next Wednesday due to Thanksgiving break, but will return on Dec. 4 in Room A331. In the next few meetings, Math Club will continue to participate in the Arete Labs Math Competition along with the monthly Math League competitions. Additionally, the AMC scores have not come out yet.
“I honestly don’t know [when the scores will come out] yet,” Beck said. “A lot of the times I feel like it’s in December when we’ll know.”
