The first Aperture Club callout meeting of the school year is scheduled for Sept. 9, according to Arjuna Capulong, Aperture Club president and senior. The other club officers, juniors Conner Gordon and Gabrielle “Bri” Robbins, will assist Capulong in planning future Aperture Club meetings.
Capulong said this year’s Aperture Club will be different from last year’s in a couple of ways. Rather than attending bimonthly meetings, club members will have monthly meetings. Last year, members uploaded photos online to Flickr, where they could publicize their work and receive feedback and critiques for improvement. This year, members will upload and share photos through Facebook. The process of critiquing, according to Capulong, is beneficial for every photographer because it is the most efficient way to make improvements.
As the president of Aperture Club, Capulong plays an important role in organizing meetings, managing the public relations and communicating with the members of the club.
Aperture Club sponsor Jim Streisel said, “I allow the students to make the decisions regarding the club.”
“It’s amazing that Carmel never had a photography club, despite the number of photography classes it offers, until the Aperture Club,” Capulong said. “I’ve been in this club for three years, and I think it’s nice to be around people who express the same interests as I do.” By Monica Cheng <[email protected]>
