Members of Fantasy Sports Club are currently participating in a fantasy football league. According to Christopher Simmons, club co-president and senior, their meetings are not regular and somewhat limited.
The fantasy football league and NCAA basketball tournament are the main events of Fantasy Sports Club, Simmons said, but other sports, like hockey, will be played if members show enough interest in them. According to club sponsor Mike Meyer, members will be playing fantasy baseball for the first time this year.
Participants in fantasy leagues draft actual players from professional teams into their own teams, Meyer said. A point system values the players in terms of their statistics. The fantasy teams can either play against each other or accumulate points throughout the season, he said. The team with the most points at the end wins. According to Simmons, most of the game-play is online and can even be done at home.
It is too late for students to participate in fantasy football, Simmons said, as the call-out meeting has already taken place and teams have been picked, but they are welcome to join later in the year. Meetings take place during SRT, usually in Meyer’s classroom, and are communicated on the morning announcements and by email. The main purpose of meetings, Simmons said, is to draft teams at the beginning of a season. Most other contact goes through email. People interested in joining Fantasy Sports Club can contact Simmons or his fellow co-president, senior Justin Griffiths. They can also talk to Meyer in Room A213.
Both Simmons and Meyer call this a club for sports enthusiasts. According to Meyer, “If you have a passion for the sport, whatever sport it is or sports in general, you love this club.” By Hafsa Razi <[email protected]>
